I’m baffled by the people who think I was raised with a silver spoon in my mouth. The spoon was cheap, plastic and only treated as if it were sillver because at least it existed. My mother was a district attorney. Her phd is useless in the U.S. I was raised in hotel rooms, in a car traveling 3,000 miles across the country and by a single parent who finally got her head above water years later. It’s slowly sinking again but we’re all just kinda floating along because we’re old enough to handle it and not sheep enough to feel the need to rub it in people’s faces. I’ve never had the urgency to tell anyone that when I was 5, my family had assistance with christmas so that we would all get toys. Or that our dad was abusive. Or that after my dad died, my mom lost the house and we lived in a hotel until I was 7. I have a mom who’s worked harder than I ever will just so I can have things that many don’t. I don’t tell people these things because my mother has raised me better than to feel like a charity case. I am a strong and able person. People should never assume anything, you’re wrong half of the time and that just makes people upset. And you look stupid.
Just ask.
